Our Mission

The JohnWesleyClub is a group of Methodists dedicated to the preservation of the traditions, practices, and values of the United Methodist Church. Our historic church embraced and continues to embrace the Wesley “Quadrilateral”: scripture, tradition, reason and experience coming together holistically in an effort to understand and live our faith.

The Methodist Church has always been a place for people to explore the Christian faith — worship freely, ask questions, share life experiences, speak openly, and find a place within the heart of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

We recognize the importance of a social witness as commanded by Christ and practiced by John Wesley. Through our collective voice, we would like to be heard, yet we value and uphold our constitution’s separation of church and state.

Our understanding of the Christian witness as realized and advanced by John Wesley commands us to bring the love of God to all people. As Christ offered his love to all people, without judgment, our goal is to preserve the Methodist value of love for all, without judgment or restriction.

In our recent history, we have witnessed attacks upon our Wesleyan identity, both from within and outside of our church body. This discord over social issues and partisan political thinking threatens to tear the church apart, much as it was split over the issue of slavery in the nineteenth century.

We hope that through our discussion we will advocate, inform, educate, and at times rally our community to activism toward preserving our Wesleyan heritage within the Methodist Church.
